Newsweek recently released their rankings for The Top 1000 U.S. High Schools.
In What Makes a High School Great?, they list the following criteria by which they made this year's rankings:
Create good citizens
Celebrate liberal arts
Prepare for work
Help boys and girls succeed - separately
Emphasize Science and Technology
Reach out to everyone

Honestly, Lynbrook was ranked way lower than I expected it to be.

May I know how to criteria of standard of High Schools in United States? Scores? sports? GPA? Libraries? Majior?
Interesting. Looks like charter and magnet schools are doing a better job meeting the evaluation standard...and based on the number of schools with higher percentage of student with fed. subsidized lunch, we are sure that those schools with these students--most likely in lower SES areas--are really doing a good job moving up their API scores! Woohoo for those schools!
Ranking, schmanking. I went to American High in Fremont (probably ranked the bottom 1000) and I turned out just fine.
