People don't take vacations anymore
Check out the articles The Rise of Shrinking-Vacation Syndrome and Please Don’t Make Me Go on Vacation for some interesting facts about how Americans are taking less and less vacation time. For example, a Gallup survey showed that 43% of Americans surveyed had no summer vacation plans, and a separate one showed 60% who were not taking a vacation in the next 6 months. Very few people ever take 2 weeks off at a time, and 1 in 5 people do work on vacation - a number that is steadily rising due to the proliferation of laptops, Blackberrys, and cell phones.
To try and do my part to reverse this no-vacation American trend, I'll be heading to Hawaii for the first time in November (Oahu). Oughta be fun.
