Is there any situation where it's acceptable to wear something other than sneakers or sandals with shorts? If it is possible to wear loafers or casual shoes, must the socks be white and ankle-high only?
Are there any situations where it is acceptable to wear white socks with black shoes, with the possible exception of if you're planning to impersonate Michael Jackson?
When you pass by someone in the office or on the street, do you purposefully look down at the ground or somewhere other than at the person? If your eyes happen to meet, do you ignore the person or give some sort of acknowledgement (like the only-guys-are-capable-of-doing-it upward head nod)?
How much do you tip? If the server does a poor job, do you tip less than 15%? Do you tip at buffets? How far away would you park to avoid having to do valet parking (I actually had this one flit through my mind last weekend at Olivia and Jonathan's wedding)?

hahah.. oh my... i shall attempt to answer to my own experience.

> salutations: just say hi. no harm in a smile and a "hi, how're you doing?".
> tips: less than 15% if the waiter is the suck. buffets, usually $1-3 per person IMO. valets, it depends on opportunity cost. if it's going to take you 20 minutes to hunt for parking, valet it for $2-6. Many of us make enough money to drop a little for a small service. besides, most places, you just only tip anyway.

if you are taking part in a japanese tea ceremony, tradition dictates white socks.
having met half of the conditions, there are four footwear options for the trip to the tea room:
1. you are wearing traditional japanese sandals with your white socks, and these sandals are not black--ok
2. you are wearing traditional japanese sandals with your white socks, and these sandals ARE black--ok
3. you are wearing normal shoes with your white socks, and these shoes are not black--ok
4. you are wearing normal shoes with your white socks, and these shoes ARE black--i think it's ok, don't you?
3. i'll look at them and then look away when we're closer. instead of the head nod, i'd just smile in acknowledgement.
4. tip: 15-20% regardless of service. buffet: less...but varies. no more than 10% and valet: if it's forced on me like at BJ's then just $2...i'd be willing to park like a 5-10 min walk away to avoid it tho
